Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all . Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. As a Product Security Intern, you will join a security-focused engineering team to design and implement a fuzzing framework targeting standard storage protocols such as NVMe or UFS. Your work will help improve robustness and security of protocol implementations by systematically generating and mutating protocol messages, automating test execution, and providing actionable triage outputs for engineering teams. Key Responsibilities Study target protocol specifications and identify high‑value fuzzing surfaces (commands, descriptors, state machines, error paths). Design a fuzzing architecture (generation/mutation strategies, seed corpus, state tracking, coverage signals where applicable). Implement the tool in a suitable language (e.g., Python/C/C++) and integrate with existing open-source fuzzers or harnesses as appropriate. Build protocol parsers/encoders and a test harness to interact with devices, emulators, simulators, or firmware targets. Automate execution, logging, and crash/failure triage (reproducers, minimization, and reporting). Analyze results, document findings, and propose improvements to increase coverage and defect discovery rate. Present progress and final outcomes (design, demos, and documentation) to the team. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Computer Science Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field. Strong programming skills in at least one of: Python, C, or C++. Solid understanding of operating system fundamentals (processes, memory, I/O, concurrency) and debugging techniques. Familiarity with networking/protocol concepts and binary data formats (serialization, parsing, endianness). Ability to read technical specifications and translate them into testable implementations. Good written and spoken English communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with fuzzing tools or methodologies (e.g., AFL/afl++, libFuzzer, Honggfuzz), sanitizers, or coverage-guided testing. Knowledge of storage or embedded protocols (NVMe, UFS, PCIe, SCSI, JEDEC, MIPI) and/or device/firmware validation. Experience with Linux development, scripting, and build systems. Exposure to reverse engineering or security testing concepts (crash triage, root cause analysis, threat modeling). Experience working with hardware labs, test equipment, or protocol analyzers. Internship Details Location: Vimercate (MB), Italy (EMEA) Duration: 6 months + 6 months (renewal) Start date: August 31st, 2026 Work model: On-site with flexible arrangements to accommodate academic needs What’s In It for You Hands-on experience building a security testing tool with real engineering impact. Mentorship from experienced engineers in protocol validation and product security. Opportunity to work at the intersection of software, hardware, and security. Exposure to industry-standard protocols (NVMe/UFS) and modern software quality practices. For internships positions in Italy, Micron could pay Eur 900 – Eur 1200 per month, and will grant, in addition meal vouchers for each day worked onsite. The internship allowance is determined based on the highest level of education already completed at the start of the internship, regardless of gender and of any other factor protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws. For working students positions in Germany Micron estimates it could pay from 15 Eur (gross) per hour. The exact amount is determined based on education and level of experience. Remuneration/allowance amounts are determined regardless of gender and of any other factor protected by applicable federal, national, or local laws. All qualified applicants will receive con
